- In 1995 Jim Massey’s purchased a vacant warehouse located at 531 E. South Street. The 50,000 sq. ft. warehouse was renovated to accommodate a dry cleaning/laundry plant, a tuxedo warehouse, and its corporate offices.
- The new facility opened in March 1996
- In 2001 we purchased the first CRDN (Certified Restoration Dry Cleaning Network) franchise in the country, the franchise for the entire state of Alabama.
- In subsequent years we also purchased CRDN franchises from Atlanta, Georgia to Tallassee, Florida. At one time, Jim Massey’s was the largest CRDN operator in the country.
- We opened 3 plants in Birmingham to serve 5 dry cleaning drop stores and one home delivery route.
- In 2010, Jim Massey, Jr. stepped down after a 30-year career overseeing the growth and diversification growing Jim Massey’s Cleaners into the major drycleaner in Alabama and the southeast. Jim Massey, III and John Massey assumed the roles of President and Vice-President respectively.
- Due to changing lifestyles and the shrinking dry cleaning market on a national scale, we closed or sold 29 locations in a 36 month period.
- We have committed to growing same store sales by focusing all of our resources and time to improve service and quality. This is being accomplished by purchasing better equipment, computers, and investing in better people.
